'G.R.E.S. Unidos da Primavera' is Brisbane's first Samba School.
Founded in 2003, it quickly became one of Brisbane's most spectacular music groups, with up to 30 percussionists performing live at such landmark events as Gold Coast Indy, the Australia Day parade and the Queensland Multicultural Festival. We are always looking for even more percussionists and want YOU to join us! Percussion classes are held on a weekly basis and are open to everyone. No experience is necessary, and fun is guaranteed! Our goal is to have at least 100 drummers and dancers! |

Sat 12 Jul 08 - Queensland again Roars against Racism! |
|
Monday, 07 July 2008 13:06 |
The Brisbane Samba School again has been invited to support "Queensland Roars against Racism". The highlight of this event is the soccer match between Queensland Roar and Brazilian soccer team Palmeiras from Sao Paolo. This match will be held on Saturday 12 July in SunCorp Stadium. We will again demonstrate that we are the only group that can play acoustically in a big stadium, and for this occassion we have teamed up with Groove Brazil, a Brisbane based dance school that will join our performance with 50 dancers. And that is on top of the 30 percussionists from the Samba School! We will play in the stadium during half time of both the main game and the celebrity match before that. You'll also find us outside the stadium for a number of short workshops between 5pm and 7pm. And, leading up to this, you'll find us on Friday 11 July around 1pm in the city at Reddacliffe place (next to the new City Council building). |

Why not join us as a percussionist in 2007? You'll learn to play samba as it's played in the annual Carnaval of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. You'll learn 'paradinhas' (breaks), arrangements for individual instruments, and how to play a variety of samba styles. Regardless of your musical experience - you'll improve your rhythm, listening skills and have a great time in the process. A typical samba school rehearsal is as much a social event and a party as it is a chance to learn real Brazilian music! The Brisbane Samba School - 2007 VenueOur Brazilian percussion classes are held every Thursday from 7pm - 9.30pm at: The Polish Club10 Marie StreetMilton(behind Park Road) Costs To allow you to try it out, we offer the first class for free. After that, the cost per class is only $10, or you can buy 5 vouchers for $40, to be used at any time. |
