We had a great time at the Rosalie Cheese and Wine festival, where the Samba School led over 100 children from Milton State School in a colourful Carnaval parade. And, because everyone had so much fun, at the end of the parade we decided to turn around and do it all over again, walking back to our starting point. Of course we were all exhausted at the end of it all, but we did have a great time. And so did the kids! |

The time has come ... almost half the samba school will be flying to Brazil in the next few days to celebrate the real Rio Carnaval! So in the meantime, until 30 March, we won't have any samba rehearsals in Brisbane (but we will have lots of fun in Rio!!!). We'll be back with lots of new ideas! |

Primavera at Australia day 2006 We had a great time at the Australia day parade. It was hard work, even though it was just 1.2 km. Some of the drums are quite heavy (12 kg!), and with the heat it's always a challenge to march during the day. However, nothing can stop the Brisbane Samba School, and we made sure everyone could hear us. Funniest thing was the very moment we started playing: our first 'paradinhas' were a bit of a (loud) surprise for the police horses, who almost threw off the police riders... |

New Year's Eve 2005 Happy new year! This new year is promising to be fantastic for the Samba School. We ended 2005 in style at a big new year's eve party at the Gold Coast Art Centre. This was a party to remember, both for the guests and for the Samba School. Our first big event in 2006 will be the Australia Day parade in Brisbane, on 26 January. We are working together with a theatre group to get a spectacular combination of sound & sights! See our gigs page for more details. In February, about 10 of us will go to witness the Carnaval in Rio de Janeiro. We intend to learn a lot by participating in workshops, and of course we'll go to the big parade in the Sambodromo. We will also buy some much needed extra percussion instruments, and hopefully we'll pick up some extra colourful costumes. Once we're all back, we start a new season of the Brisbane Samba School. There are a number of positions available, on all types of drums, so this would be a good moment to join us. |
