This Sunday 11 October 2009, the Brisbane Samba School will play in SunCorp stadium again to support Brisbane Roar in their match against Gold Coast United. We will play both outside the stadium to welcome fans, on the field, and maybe even during the game to give the game a little bit of extra spice and to support the Orange Army! |

We are excited about a rather unusual event: in December, the Brisbane Samba School will be part of the 'Uncharted' performances with Vulcana's Women's Circus here in Brisbane. "Uncharted takes you on a journey to an exciting but hidden place on the map that has been uncovered by members of the migrant and refugee communities of Logan and Brisbane through circus, capoeira, puppetry, music and dance". Of course, we'd never expected in our wildest dreams to ever play with a circus, so this is going to be a once in a lifetime experience! Details about the performances can be found in our gigs section.

On Sunday 14 October, the Brisbane Samba School did a combined performance and workshop at the annual Multicultural Festival in Roma Street Parkland. We started the show with a short and poweful performance, then invited the many kids to come to the stage, where we gave them shakers, agogos and tamborims so that they could join in. Remko did some basic instruction, and within a few minutes everyone was playing. This caught the attention of a group of Brazilians from Bahia, who couldn't resist dancing after being invited to do so! Following the workshop, we had many enquiries about the samba school, and we look forward to welcoming new members soon. We still want to grow so there is room for more! A great workshop at Roma Street Parkland |

This was a fantastic gig at the annual Polish Spring Festival in Capalaba. During the second set we discovered about 15 kids all dressed up for another performance. They looked great, and in the middle of a song we invited them on stage to do some dancing. We gave them some instruments too so they could join in the fun. All the while the samba school played an awesome samba-reggae beat. A memorable day for all with many video cameras trained on the kids! Everyone can join us - instantly! |

Workshop during Queensland Roar family day Our performances in July during Queensland Roars against Racism were a great success, and we now have been asked to perform during the Queensland Roar Family Fun Day on 19th August at Roma Street Parklands. During this free event, the Samba School will play twice on stage (at 11.30am and 2.00pm), and we will also do a couple of free workshops for anyone who wants to try and play some Brazilian percussion. The workshops are at 10.15am and 1pm, just show up, no registration necessary! |
